Governments are like a duty to stand before Israel. Very much failed Gustavo Petro star-news.press/wp

Over the course of last 600, the scientist Benjamin Netanyahu watched a campaign to destroy in Gaza, escalate the regional conflict, and abandon the recklessness of international law in general.

Governments, like mines, cannot remain negative. In September 2024, when we voted in favor of the United Nations General Assembly’s decision on Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, we assumed concrete obligations – investigations, trials, sanctions, freezing assets and stopping imports and weapons. This decision has set the 12 -month deadline for Israel to “end without delaying its illegal existence.” One hundred and twenty -four states voted for Saleh, including Colombia. The time now beats.

However, in the meantime, many countries have allowed strategic calculations to overcome our duty. Although we may face revenge threats when we defend international law – as South Africa discovered when the United States has retaliated its case in the International Court of Justice – the consequences of waiver our responsibilities will be harsh. If we fail to act now, we are not only betraying the Palestinian people, but we are complicit in the atrocities committed by the Netanyahu government.

Some governments have already climbed. For example, the two governments of coal exports hung to Israel, for example, with the realization that economic relations cannot be separated from moral responsibilities. South Africa, at the same time, Israel moved to the highest court in the world. Malaysia has banned all Israeli shipping ships from laying in its ports. Without such a decisive procedure, we risk converting the multilateral system into a modern store, and stripping the legal system to protect its remaining, developing and less concessional countries – from West Asia here in Latin America.

The next test of the international community is just around the corner. On July 15, my government will work, along with South Africa-participating heads of the Hague Group-at an emergency conference in Gaza, and called on ministers from states all over the world to trade a multilateral defense of international law. Our goal is simple: providing concrete legal, diplomatic and economic measures that can cut the destruction of Israel – and support the basic principle of the absence of a state above the law.

The invitation is open and urgent. The postponement to the unlimited international conference of the United Nations for the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question, which participated in the presidency of France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, left a critical vacuum in the multilateral leadership, accurately when it is needed.

The United Nations announced that Gaza is “the place of the hungry on the ground”, and its mission to send aid to Gaza as “one of the most obstacle … in modern history.” In this terrible humanitarian context, the emergency conference in Bogota states states to move from condemnation to teamwork. By cutting our ties of collusion – through the courts of our states, ports and factories – we can challenge Donald Trump and Netanyahu to a world where “it may be the right.”

The choice in front of us is blatant and ruthless. We can either stand firmly in defense of the legal principles that seek to prevent war and conflict, or watch without power and power with the collapse of the international system under the weight of the unrestricted power policy. Let’s be heroes together – do not get a side.

For billions of people in the global south who depend on international protection law, the risks cannot be higher. The Palestinian people deserve justice. The courageous moment requires. History will be cruel to us if we fail to respond to its call.
