The Ministry of Internal Security says that the Caribbean country full of gangs is safe enough to return to the Haitians.

The United States government has announced that it would end a special protection for Haiti immigrants.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Internal Security (DHS) said that, starting from September 2, Haitian will not be able to stay in the country under the appointment of the temporary protected situation (TPS).

TPS allows citizens of countries facing conflict, natural disasters, or other unusual conditions for temporary survival in the United States. It also gives them the right to work and travel.

It is usually appointed for periods of six, 12 or 18 months, but it can be extended by the Secretary of the Ministry of National Security.

But under President Donald Trump’s administration, temporary protection such as TPS was reduced as part of a wider batch to reduce migration to the United States.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Security said in a statement on Friday.

Haiti first obtained the appointment of TPS in 2010, when a devastating earthquake killed more than 200,000 people and left 1.5 million homeless – more than 10 of the population. This appointment has been routinely expanded, especially with bad gang violence and political instability in recent years.

Since his first term in office, from 2017 to 2021, President Trump has sought to strip the TPS for the Haitians, even with the deterioration of conditions on the island of Caribbean.

Today, Haiti is facing a long -term humanitarian crisis, with more than 5,600 people killed by gangs last year and 1.3 million displaced people. Armed groups now control up to 90 percent of the capital, and it is extremely difficult to obtain food, water and medical services.

The US State Department has developed a travel consultant in Haiti, where it was included as a 4 -level country, the highest warning level.

Level 4 indicates “Do not travel”, as there are life -threatening conditions in the specified area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends avoiding Haiti “due to kidnapping, crime, civil disorders and limited health care.”
