Thailand publishes a fighter plane in the escalation of the border conflict with Cambodia, killing at least 12 star-news.press/wp

Both sides said, a Thai F-16 fighter plane in Cambodia, where weeks of tension escalated over a border dispute into clashes on Thursday that killed at least 12 people, including 11 civilians.

The Thai army said that among the six F-16 fighters prepared by Thailand to publish along the disputed border, one of the planes fired in Cambodia and destroyed a military target. Both countries accused each other of starting the clash early on Thursday.

“We have used the air force against military targets as planned,” Thai army spokeswoman Richa Sokuanon told reporters.

Thailand closed its borders with Cambodia.

The Cambodia Ministry of Defense said that the planes shot down two bombs on the road, and that they “strongly condemn the reckless and brutal military aggression of the Kingdom of Thailand against the sovereignty and integrity of the regional Cambodia.”

The skirmishes came after Thailand summoned its ambassador in Cambodia late on Wednesday and said that it would expel the Cambodia envoy in Bangkok, after a second Thai soldier within a week lost one of its parties to a ground brick that Bangkok had recently been placed in the disputed area.

For more than a century, Thailand and Cambodia were competed in various unrestricted points along its 817 km wild borders, which led to skirmishes over several years.

Thailand Minister of Health said that 11 civilians, including a child, were killed by one soldier in artillery bombing by the Cambodian forces, while 24 civilians and seven military personnel were wounded. There was no immediate word of losses in Cambodia.

“The Thai army condemns Cambodia for using weapons to attack civilians in Thailand. Thailand is ready to protect sovereignty and our people from inhuman work,” the army said in a statement.

Regional powers urge calm

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday that it is deeply concerned about the ongoing developments along the borders of Thailand-Gambodia and hopes that the two sides will properly address the issues through dialogue and consultations. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Qoh Jiakon said at a regular press conference, adding that China supports a fair and fair position.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urged Malaysia, the current president of the Southeast Asian Championship, where they are Thailand and Cambodia, urged calm and said that he would speak to the leaders of the two countries to resolve their dispute safely.

Thai residents, including children and the elderly, ran to concrete built shelters, fortification with sandbags and car tires in the border province of Surin.

“How many tours were launched? They are countless,” said an unidentified woman to serve the Thai broadcasting public broadcasting while hiding in the shelter where the explosions were heard intermittently in the background.

The Cambodia Foreign Ministry said that the air strikes in Thailand were “unjustified” and called on its neighbor to withdraw its forces and “refrain from any other provocative measures that could climb the situation.”

The tensions were reshaped in May after the Kambudi soldier was killed during a summary of the shooting, which escalated into a complete diplomatic crisis, and has now caused armed clashes.

The clashes started early on Thursday near the disputed TA Moan Thom Temple along the border between Cambodia and Thailand, about 360 km east of the Thai capital, Bangkok.

However, Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense spokesman said that there was an unjustified incursion by Thai and Cambodian forces who responded to self -defense.

The Acting Prime Minister in Thailand Fumtham and Yuhayachhay said the situation was sensitive.

“We have to be careful,” he told reporters. “We will follow international law.”
