Why is it important
Salmonella infections, usually known as salmonelosis, can result in symptoms within 6 hours to 6 days. These symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting, as well as fever, cold and dehydration. In most cases, the symptoms last 4-7 days, but they can persevere if complications arise.
While most salmonella infections are treasure and resolved, they can represent serious health risks, especially vulnerable groups such as newborns, older, pregnant women and those with impaired immune systems, according to FDA.
