The hit Mayor of New York defended the city’s approach in its introductory remarks, stating the posture with its own commitment, saying “as the Mayor of New York and former police officer for 22 years, keeping new Yorkers secure.”
Adams quoted the decreased crime rates in New York and said that he appeared on Wednesday to testify that the city can continue to reduce crime “even as the city population.”
“To be clear, the classification of the city city service does not mean that our city will ever be a sure refuge for violent criminals,” said Adams. “He also does not give New York City authority for violation of federal immigration laws. New York City will always be in accordance with the city, state and federal laws as now”
Adams said that immigrants respected in New York have a “important role”, contributing to energy consumption in the city economy, among other things. He said his role as mayor involving the population in his city, which includes the creation of an atmosphere that allows every inhabitant – “documented or not” – for access to vital services.
“I can’t have a city in which parents are afraid to send their children to school, or where children sleep on the streets, creating a potential for the child’s exploitation and gender,” Adams said. “If an undocumented person refuses to seek medical care until he will have a medical emergency, the system of health on our city, and if an undocumented person is witnessing a crime, but he is afraid to surrender to Federal authorities, criminals will wander for free.”
However, Adams said that “dedicated to working with federal officials to go after violent gangs and those who harm the inhabitants of our city.”
