Nico Williams doubled his commitment to Athletic Club, living interest in Barcelona to follow his career in Bilbao.
International Spain, when he had a key role in the 2024 victory of La Roja, attracted a lot of attention this summer among the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Barcelona, in particular, appeared ready to turn on its 58 million release clause, in an effort to bring the wing to Camp Nou, after registering their interest in one year.
However, Williams has just signed the extension of the contract with Chlatic Club until June 2035, and has clearly left his heart to stay in the Basque Country.
“We have a long season in front of us and with great ambitious goals, playing in the Champions League – All players dream,” Nico said.
“What could be better than doing it with my life club? I want to continue to make history in San Mamés, fans, full of my family and enthusiasm”.

Mikel Gonzalez Director of Football Director, he received the decision as an important victory for the club.
“It’s a unique and extraordinary player, and adhering to this talent is a great news at Athletic,” Gonzalez said.
Williams loyalty is especially significant with the club’s long-standing link. He entered the Athletic Youth Academy was just 11 years old, and now at 22, it is one of the most exciting young people in Europe.
Williams will continue sharing the pitch with his main brother, with Inaki Williams, who have named the first team captain for the next season.
“We both always dreamed of this moment,” he shared Nico.
“My brother is a role model for everyone, especially for me. I think it’s the best person to be captain, and I can’t wait for eleven for a long time.”
