Some details of the event remain a mystery (including the actual number of fatalities) for a cover, here is what is known.
On May 30, a black teen called Dick Rowland was working as Shoeshiner in Tulshland and was seen running from a building. Sarah was only with a young white woman called white page. They took over the care of questioning the next day.
Rumors directed the story of Wildfire and Tibune Tribune, which was arrested by Rowland to get a sexual assault. On May 31, in the afternoon, a Lynch mob was collected where the rower was arrested. Sheriff Willard McCullough refused and barriced himself, along with his men, to protect the prisoners of court.
When stand-off news Greenwood got at least 25 men, most of the most veteran WWI, they were armed and went to court to help protect the ruders from the Mobo. He sent sheriffs, but when they were returning to Greenwood, many armed white men gathered. Both teams exchanged fire, and one dozen men were believed to die a dozen men.
The little hours of the morning of June 1st, the tensions reached the point of boiling. Many men who would attack Greenwood were deputed instead of the city officials. Greenwood residents knew what he would come and took advantage of the defensive positions to defend the neighborhood and they could find them anywhere, but they were excessive and overflowed. The attack began at dawn. At the end of the day three hundred men, women and children were dead in the streets, and in the ashes of roasted buildings.
The Democrat JBO Roberson declared the Martial Law of Tulsa in the evening of June 1. The National Guard arrived and a restored request. Six thousand black Tulsa were made in the armed guards. The bodies of the dead were loaded in livestock trucks and were buried in the graves. Some families currently have never officially found the fate of the beloved.
Greenwood has never been completely recovered.
Dick Rowland was released from the care of the next morning and never charged. Police decided that he probably crashed the woman’s foot, which caused him screaming. He left Tulsa immediately and never came back.
