Speaking early on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister Shigro Ishiba said he had received a preliminary report from his commercial negotiation in Washington, but he refused to comment on the details of the negotiation.

Ishiba exposed extensive political pressure in Japan, where the ruling coalition was returned by losing control of the House of Representatives in the elections on Sunday.

He said he could not say how the commercial deal will affect his decision to step down from his position until he sees the details.
