Intuitive machines landed a robot last year. Houston can do it again, but did you keep the spaceship standing this time?
The second lander of the company, called Athena, was launched on Wednesday 9 rocket at the Florida Kennedy Space Center. Will try to land on March 6. The destination of the spacecraft is Mons Mouton, a region of 100 kilometers from the south pole of the Moon. It will be closer to the South Pole than the previous spaceships landed.
The first intuitive Lander on the Moon set out on the moon, Odysseus in February last year, even though he was found to communicate with the Earth. It was the first commercial authority to reach the moon surface, and the first vehicle in America was smoothly landed on the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
Athena’s main charge is a drill for NASA, as part of the Moon Trade Services Program. Paying a trade company like intuitive machines to take something to the moon is cheaper than designing and building its own spacecraft for NASA.
The drill is designed to drill around three meters below the skin, the lunar soil at the same time about four inches and pile on the surface. A tool known as a mass spectrometer will have a sniff around the drilled material for composites like frozen water that easily transform gases.
Athena Lander has three robotic vehicles and carries a small flying “hopper” that will spread after landing.
Rover is the largest, autonomous prospective platform or Mapp, Mapp, the first mobile phone network test on the Moon. Nokia won the financing of the Space Agency to test technology, but then at least a way to move an antenna from the lander. So Nokia lunar outpost hired a company called Rover, which is the size of a small dog.
The exterior of the moon selling Mapp’s space to other customers. One, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology built a small Rover called Astroant, which will explore the top flat surface of Mapp.
Athena will also open a rover called Yaoki, built by Japanese company Dymon, Mac Mini is a little bigger than a computer.
Intuitive machines were built in the Hopper as part of another NASA contract. The small artisan fueled by rockets can offer new opportunities to explore long distances, similar to the NASA intellectual helicopter similar to MARSKO.
On the moon without the moon, helicopters cannot fly, but Thruster will allow hope to fly long distances. Nokia will also lead to one of the antennum of mobile phones. The plan is to fly in the final shadow crater.
Why was the last Lander of intuitive machines ended?
Odysseus Lander had to use the laser altimeter to help drive on the surface of the moon. For overseeing on boarding preparations, the device security switch was never disabled, this tool is useless. Intuitive machines engineers had a newly rushed landing software to use similar measures to the spacecraft NASA experimental. But they lost a key parameter in the computer code and the landing program set aside the data.
The spacecraft fell to his detailed height, invented only the distance based on the surface based on horizontal speed calculated in the camera. The inventions were quite close, although he failed, he was still moving horizontally. The landing gear was broken, and tipped in spaceships.
Athena Lander is almost the same for Odyssee – Each is what his company calls its Nova-C design and the official machine officials said they tested the laser.
What other spaceships are traveling with Athena?
There are three separate spaceships on Falcon 9 rocket. Basically, they are taking advantage of the rocket loading space for cheaper walk to space.
One, Lunar Trailblazer, lost cost is the role of the NASA – about $ 100 million. Designed to measure water distribution on the moon.
Athena will make a quick trip to the moon, while Lunar Trailblarer will be more efficient fuel. If it starts on Wednesday, it will take more than four months to reach the moon. (If the launch is happening on another day, the route changes and the journey could be seven months.)
The second spacecraft is the microwave-sized spacecraft built by Odin, California Astroforge. It will go to a nearby Earth asteroid to study whether it was full of valuable metals that could hurt in the future.
Third vehicle, Chimera Geo 1It is a spacecraft Epic aerospace San Francisco designed for placement Small satellites in distance orbits.
An eclipse?!
The skin mission lasts less than a moon day, or about 10 days of the ground until the sun set. Without solar energy, the spacecraft batteries will be excluded from power.
In the middle of the Moon Day, March 14, at 2:00 hours Eastern time, darkness falls in minutes – Eclipse when the earth passes between the sun and the moon.
The solar plants will need to draw the power of its batteries during the eclipse, but it will have to survive.
What’s more to land on the moon soon?
The door is the third commercial territory that has launched to the moon this year, even if it can reach the second.
On January 15, Falcon 9 rocket launched two other lands – Firefly Austin, the Japanese space of Texas and the resilience.
Ghost blue, like Athenea, is part of the NASA CLPS program, and the landing on March 2 is planned before Athena. It is the basin in the northeastern side of the Moon.
Resilience, also known as Hakuto-r Mission 2 Lander, is doing an indirect route and is expected to reach the moon in May. Its landing area is near the center of Mare Frigoris, or a cold sea, the northern hemisphere of the moon. This will be an attempt to land the second Moon of Ispace. His first role, in 2023, failed.
