The Iranian -backed Houthis said on Saturday that an Israeli air strike killed the prime minister of rebel -controlled government in the Yemeni capital in SANA.
The rebel group said in a statement that Ahmed Al -Rahwi, who was appointed in the role in August 2024, died on Thursday with a number of ministers. The statement added that the ministers and other officials were injured, without providing more details.
He said he was targeted with other members of his Houthi government during a routine workshop held by the government, to evaluate its activities and performance over the past year.
Al -Rahawi was the oldest Houthi officials who have been killed since the United States and Israel began its air and sea campaign in response to the attacks of the rebel and drone group on Israel and ships in the Red Sea.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that the strike was a “overwhelming blow” against the Houthis, adding that “this is only the beginning.”
The strikes left dozens of people. One attack from the United States in April struck a prison holding African immigrants in the Northern Sada Province, killing at least 68 and wounding 47.
The Houthis have repeatedly fired rockets against Israel throughout the war of that country against Hamas in Gaza.
The group says the attacks are involved with the Palestinians.
Although Israel intercepted most of the missiles launched by Yemen by Israel, or shrapnel in the air, this did not do much to deter attacks.
Earlier this week, Israeli strikes hit multiple areas throughout SANA, killing at least 10 people and wounding 102 others, according to the Ministry of Health and government officials run by Houthi.
The apparent strike occurred on Thursday, as the Houthis claimed, as the rebel -owned television station broadcast a letter about Abdul -Malik al -Houthi, the secret leader of the rebel group. During the broadcast, Al -Houthi was sharing updates on the latest Gaza developments and pledged to take revenge on Israel.
Senior Houthi officials tend to gather to see Houthi speeches in advance. On Thursday, Houthi leaders were in a villa in Beit Boss, an ancient village in southern SANA, three tribal leaders of the Associated Press. They spoke on the condition that his identity is not disclosed because they fear the repercussions.
The Israeli army says it “hit” the Houthi target
On Thursday, the Israeli army said it “strictly hit a military target for the Houthi terrorist in the SANA area in Yemen.”
The army had no immediate comment on announcing the death of the Prime Minister.
“Yemen holds a lot for the victory of the Palestinian people,” Al -Rahwi said last week. It spoke after an Israeli strike that struck a stipulation of the country’s main oil company, which is controlled by the rebels in SANA, and the power plant.

(Correction: In a previous version of this video, we have been informed that Hamas is a terrorist organization by many countries and entities, including the United Nations. In fact, the United Nations is not considered Hamas as a terrorist organization.)
On August 24, the strike came three days after the Houthis launched a ballistic missile in Israel, whose army described as the first group launched by the rebels since 2023.
Al -Rahwi was from the southern province of Abyan and an ally of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Al -Rahawi alliance with the Houthis when the rebels exceeded SANA, many from the north and in the center of the country in 2014, and they began in the long -term civil war in the country.
The Prime Minister killed a “dangerous setback” for the rebels: an analyst
Ahmed Nagy, a prominent Yemeni analyst in the International Fashion Group, a Brussels -based research center, is called the Houthi Prime Minister’s killing as a “dangerous setback” for the rebels.
He said that the escalation represents an Israeli shift from hitting the rebel infrastructure to targeting their leaders, including the higher military figures, which “pose a greater threat to the structure of their leadership.”
The Houthis launched a campaign targeting ships in response to the Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, saying they were doing this in solidarity with the Palestinians. Their attacks over the past two years have led to a shipment in the Red Sea, which the goods of about a trillion US dollars are going through every year.
In May, the US administration with President Donald Trump announced a deal with the Houthis to end the air strikes in exchange for ending the attacks. However, the rebels said that the agreement does not include stopping attacks on the targets believed to be compatible with Israel.
