Hezbollah has called for Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory before any discussion of disarmament.

Hezbollah supporters gathered in the Lebanese capital to protest against the disarmament of the group before the government cabinet meeting on this issue.

The demonstrations took place in Beirut on Monday evening amid pressure by the United States on Lebanon to obtain Hezbollah to put its arms.

Hezbollah appeared from a war with Israel last year, which canceled most of the group’s leadership, killed thousands of its fighters, and left tens of thousands of its displaced supporters from their destroyed homes.

In recent months, the United States and Lebanon are in a road map to disarm. The new Lebanese leadership has pledged to expand its authority in all its territories, but has so far avoided representation against Hezbollah.

Al -Jazeera, Zina Khoder, said that the supporters of Hezbollah protested because they believed that disarmament would have traces on their political position and security.

“Hezbollah has explained its position: it will not be removed because doing this would serve the interests of Israel, not Lebanon’s sovereignty,” said Khoder, who was reported to Beirut.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem told the country’s leadership that the group is blackmailing – that if they were not disarmed, money will not be given for reconstruction.

Before the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Hezbollah, through the Lebanese MP Ali Fayad, reiterated its demand that Israel withdraw from Lebanese territory, the release of Lebanese prisoners, and the suspension of hostilities before any discussion of disarmament, according to the NNA National Agency for Lebanon.

However, the political leadership Lebanon is paying for this step – even if it may bring strength.

“If there is a cost to be able to centrally arms with … the Lebanese armed forces, (may be) better than that,” said Elias Hanakash, another member of the Lebanese Parliament.

“But everything has been done so far … to avoid any clash with Hezbollah.”

Khoder said that the Lebanese army would face Hezbollah if there is a political decision to disarm the group by force.

The President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, said on Friday, saying: “I invite all political parties to deal with the issue of controlling weapons with full responsibility.”

In 2008, a government decision to dismantle the group’s communications network led to violence in the streets.

The Minister of Agriculture in Lebanon, Nna NNA, told the president that the president had set a clear timetable for the disarmament process. He added that the Lebanese army had already acquired hundreds of Hezbollah sites and weapons warehouses.

Hani stressed that the group is part of the “Lebanese fabric” and played a major role in “liberating the land”, but “the next stage requires that the state be alone in the decision -maker of war and peace.”

Khoder said that he was the strongest military and political actor in Lebanon for years, and while some military capabilities were lost in her struggle last year with Israel, she was not fully defeated.

Mark Dow, the other deputy, said, “Hezbollah is still strong in the state because of its monopoly on Shiite representation, as well as the appointment of major figures in all states.”

A long time ago, the political scene in Lebanon and society has been divided with various views on the role of Hezbollah and the need for disarmament.

The issue dominated Lebanese policy for decades, but there is now a sense of urgency with increasing international pressure – in addition to increasing military pressure from Israel, which is targeting Hezbollah regularly despite the ceasefire between the two since November 2024.

“It is now expected that the government will officially adhere to Hezbollah, a decision that could ignite the political crisis at least,” said Khoder.
