A man dies after the suspected shark attack in Sydney star-news.press/wp

A man died on Sydney beach after being bitten by the suspected “Great shark”, according to New South Wales police in Australia.

In a statement, the police said the man had been pulled from the morning on the beach on the Long REEF beach – but he “died at the scene.”

“Two parts of the waves board were recovered and taken to examine experts,” the statement said.

On Saturday, a series of closures in the popular area known as the northern beaches.

The state police said that emergency services received reports shortly after 10:00 am local time on Saturday (00:00 GMT) that “a man was seriously injured.”

At a press conference later on Saturday, the police described the victim as a “experienced server” who was in water with his friends.

They said he was browsing for only 30 minutes when he was attacked about 100 meters (328 feet) from the beach, and lost “a number of parties.”

The victim was brought to the beach by other surfers.

He said he expected the beaches to remain closed for between 24 and 72 hours.

The name of the victim was not publicly released.

Police added that police officers and local experts are now working together to “determine the types of sharks.”

The last deadly shark attack in the Sydney region in 2022, when Simon Nelst – a British diving coach – was subjected to a great white penny.

Before that, there has been no deadly attack since 1963.

Australia usually records about 20 sharks attacks every year, with most of them in New South Wales and West Australia.

Historically, death from the shark bite is common. In more than a century of records, Australia’s mortality rate is 0.9 – less than one person per year.
