Evangelical Christian and former tourist host Mike Huckabee was confirmed as a new American ambassador to Israel.
The former Arkansas Governor has long been a porious supporter of Israel. Strongly supports the Jewish settlement in the Palestinian territories, which are considered illegal under international law – although this Israel rejects it.
“This is a great day for Israeli-American Alliance,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah, joining other members of his government in celebrating the outcomes of the vote on Wednesday.
The Senate supported Huckabee for 53 to 46, largely along party lines, with only one Democrat, John Fetterman, who supports him.
Many Democrats, however, are critical to his previous statements about the permanent war in Gaza.
The Democratic Senator Jerry Nadler last month said Huckabee was “WEELY is unfit” for the role.
He also accused him to deal with the “rude denial of the existence of the Palestinean people”, referencing a press conference in which Huckabee said “There is no Palestinian.”
Huckabee occupies his post at a time when a little sign of any agreement on fresh interruptions in Gaza and the return of the remaining hostages.
He also often expressed support for the Annexed Western Bank, with the ultimate right politicians in Israel that calls for this year to Israeli sovereignty.
But during his testing of the Senate Committee, he tried to play some of his past statements, saying that “to” report the President’s priorities “, not his and denied supporting the expulsion of Palestinians.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that Estanisto Huckabee “will strengthen the inextricable connection between our nations”, after a telephone call between the two.
The Israeli Prime Minister also shared his greeting cards, describing Huckabee as “Dear Friend” in Post on X.
Netanyahu has just returned from Washington where he was standing next to the US President Donald Trump, as he led direct talks with Iranian, and praise the President of Turkish Erdogan – whom Israel considers as a potential threat to the reorge.
Speaking Wednesday, Trump said Huckabee would be “being fantastic” in his new role.
“He will bring home bacon,” he said from the oval office, “although bacon is too big in Israel. I had to report it.”
