Flights are temporarily disrupted at Liberia’s main airport on Thursday night after a private jet conveyed by President Joseph Boakai almost crashed during landing.
Part of the transmission for landing of presidential jets defective during approaching the runway, causing the rough landing, the airport authorities said.
The incident, who caused the panic at the airport, forced the cancellation of all scheduled flights for the night, the local media reported.
The President Boakai, who returned from the trip to Nigeria with his enturage, was certainly evacuated unharmed, because the authorities announced the investigation.
Photos of the depleted jet at Roberts International Airport (RIA) that circulated on social media, were initiated by concern for the security of the President.
Local media, stating the airport authorities, said that one of the tires of the airplane broke the landing leaving him on the way to the runway.
In the statement, Liberia Airport (LAA) confirmed the “accident of the situation nearby” which includes a presidential jet.
Authority rejected reports that suggest that the incident was caused by poor runway conditions.
“The infrastructure of the runway remains fully in accordance with international internation standards,” Laa said.
The aircraft has since been removed from the runway, and at the airport, normal operations continued, the authorities stated.
“At this stage, the investigation to establish the actual cause of the incident is underway, and the authority of the airport will keep the public informed,” Lai said.
The Liberian Presidency has yet to comment on the incident, but shared photos of Boakai who came to the airport, where he briefly spoke to journalists without being mentioned by the plane plane.
