The organizers of the Music Festival in Italy canceled a concert that includes the Russian leader Valerie Girgiv days after criticism from the Kremlin critics and human rights youth.

Girgiv, an ally of President Putin, was scheduled to lead an Italian orchestra and a single musician of the Marineski Theater in Saint Petersburg in a performance in a former royal palace near Napoli later this month.

The 72 -year -old has been prevented from western stages since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which he refused to be convicted.

Italian Minister of Culture Alessandro Jolie said that the cancellation by the organ organizers of the U’State Festival was the “proper logic” and the protection of “the values of the free world”.

The Royal Cassarta Palace did not present any official reason for the cancellation of the concert on July 27, which was organized as part of the broader music program.

On Sunday, Ukraine urged the organizers to drop the performance of Girgiv, describing it as “the tongue of Putin’s condition”, which should not be welcomed anywhere, “as long as the Russian forces continue to commit atrocities.”

Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, welcomed the cancellation, describing it as “good news”, in a post on X.

“An artist should not be welcomed by a artist who supports the current dictatorship in Russia in Europe,” she said.

But the Moscow Ambassador to Italy said that the decision was a “explicit situation” and part of the “policy of canceling” Russian culture.

Girgiv, the director of the role of the state, Bulshoy and Marineski, played regularly in the leading western places before the invasion of Ukraine.

Institutions, including La Scala in Milan, the Philharmonic Munich Orchestra and the Carnegie Hall in New York later cut ties with him.

The controversy appeared about the emergence of Girgiv last week when Italy was hosting the heads of a country from all over Europe to reaffirm their support for Ukraine and discuss how to rebuild the country as soon as the war ended.

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Miloni was a strong critic and consistent to Vladimir Putin from the beginning. But the Ministry of Culture was one of the supporters of the U’estate Da Re Festival.
