Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Wednesday that Canada was planning to recognize a Palestinian state in September during a United Nations meeting.
“We are working ourselves, with others, to maintain the possibility of a two -state solution, not to allow facts on the ground, deaths on the ground, settlements on the ground, and sources on the ground, to reach this extent that this is not possible.”
Carney said this step was subject to the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to reforms, including the obligations to reform its rule and hold the general elections next year, which “cannot play Hamas.”
Israel criticized Carney’s position, describing a “reward for Hamas”, which hurts me efforts to reach the ceasefire and liberate the remaining hostages who are still protesting by the terrorist group after October 7, 2023, an attack against the Jewish state.

“Israel rejects the statement of the Prime Minister of Canada,” Israel Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “The change in the position of the Canadian government at this time is a reward for Hamas and harm the efforts made to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and a working framework to release the hostages.”
Carney’s announcement came after France said last week that it would get to know a Palestinian state and a day that Britain said it would get to know the state at the United Nations if the Israeli war did not stop in Gaza by that time.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke with Carney before the announcement of Canada, said that the recognition of a Palestinian state “will” revive the possibility of peace in the region.

“Canada condemns the fact that the Israeli government has allowed a disaster to reveal in Gaza,” Carney said.
The White House also opposes the decision to recognize a Palestinian state, saying that President Donald Trump agrees with Israel as “rewarding Hamas.”
“As the president mentioned, he will reward Hamas if he realizes a Palestinian state, and he does not believe that it should be rewarded,” said a White House official. “So he will not do it. President Trump’s focus is on feeding people (in Gaza).”
Trump also wrote on social media that Canada’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state “will make it difficult for us to make a commercial deal with them.”
The US special envoy to the Middle East will travel to Steve Wittouf to Israel on Thursday to discuss the situation in Gaza. Trump said this week he expected centers to be created to feed more people in the region.
