Canada referred to a renewed interest in restarting talks with Mercosur last month, as part of a wider batch to diversify trade away from the United States amid uncertainty caused by the customs tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump.
“While the bases -based trading is threatened, we need to stand with similar partners in thinking, as Brazil is truly building on this structure, to ensure the presence of the structure, to enhance more trade.”
The talks between Canada and Mercosur have stopped since 2021, when South American countries focused on local issues such as elections, before Trump’s policy resettled the business schedule.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said: “Brazil and Canada were affected by the measures that distort the legitimate flow of goods and investments, which were adopted without technical justification,” said Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.
