Power in the south of France caused by suspicious sabotage disrupted projections at the final day of the Cannes Film Festival.

About 160,000 homes in the town of Cannes and surrounding areas lost its power early on Saturday, before the supply was restored in the afternoon.

Officials said that the electric substation was on fire, and the column at another location was damaged.

The organizers of the International Film Festival say that the closing ceremony will move forward as planned as they have an alternative power supply.

Prosecutors say that the first cut current showed when the substation in the village of Taneron, which supplies Cannes, attacked the arts in the early hours.

At about 10:00 (08:00 GMT) the legs of electricity pylon near the city of Villeneuve-Loubet are cut, start a second break.

In Cannes, shops and restaurants have been fighting for work.

“Another hour and I’ll throw everything up,” Laurent Aboutrat said, owning Cannes’ Jamin Restaurant, told the AFP news agency. He said his refrigerators were excluded from the morning.

“Cannes is in full slowdown, target, and I don’t think there are coffee, and the city ran out of croissant, so it’s like a crisis territory,” said Australian Producer Darren Vukasinovic.

Several windows were interrupted in the morning, before the festival organizers could pass to private generators.

Saturday is the last day of the festival. The French actress Juliette Binoche and her jury are set up to the announcements of the winner of the Palm D’Or – the highest award rewarded at the festival.
