An air ambulance crashed into a residential area near the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, killing at least six people and wounding two others, according to a local official.
A medium -sized plane took off from Wilson Airport at 2:17 pm local time (11:17 GMT) on Thursday and was on its way to Somalland when it fell in Ruwao, Kimo Province, after 3:00 pm (12:00 GMT).
“We have lost four people, including the pilot … everything was fatal,” said Henry Wala, Campo County Commissioner.
He said, “The house on which he fell died … two people also,” adding that two people on the ground were seriously injured. “
The photos taken by reporters from the news agency at the scene showed huge crowds, as rescue teams from the Kenya Red Cross and the first respondents chose the scattered debris.
“The plane began burning while it was in the air,” Tasha and Anjira, who lived for Agence France -Presse, told the small community.
One of the residents, Irene and Wangoy, described how “the plane that we passed through the building was vibrating,” and said when the plane fell, “There were parts of the body scattered everywhere.”
With the dusk drop, hundreds of rescue workers remained, where the residents cry because they feel comfortable by the neighbors.
“I lost everything, and thank God my children were not present,” Margaret Wirgrot told AFP, crying on her devastating home.
The CEO of The Charity Amref Flying Doctors, Stephen Gitau, confirmed that one of their planes, Cessna City XLS, “participated in a fatal accident today”, but did not provide any other details.
Gito said that the company focuses on “safety and welfare of those on board” and said that more information will be provided “as confirmed.”
Amref issued a statement saying that “they are fully cooperating with relevant aviation authorities and emergency response teams to create the facts surrounding the situation.”
Its headquarters in Nairobi, Amref was founded in 1957 as aviation doctors in East Africa.
