The US President said on Wednesday that Vladimir Putin will face “very serious consequences” if he does not agree to a war ceasefire in Ukraine at the Donald Trump summit in Alaska.

Speaking after a call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders, including the British Keir Starmer, Trump also suggested that he would push a second summit if his meeting with Putin followed well – this time including his Ukrainian counterpart.

“If the first goes well, we will have a quick second,” Trump told reporters in Washington. “I would like to do it almost immediately, and we will face another quick meeting between President Putin and President Zelinsky and I, if they want to get there.”

Trump did not provide a time frame for the second meeting. Putin will meet in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday. According to what was reported, the meeting will be held at the joint base Elmendorf -Richardson, a decisive military facility against the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.

When asked whether Russia will face consequences if Putin did not agree to stop the war after the Alaska meeting, Trump said: “Yes, will … very severe consequences.”
