The global base line tariffs are likely to range from 15 % to 20 % star-news.press/wp

President Donald Trump said on Monday that a comprehensive tariff between 15 % and 20 % will be implemented on imports to the United States from countries that have not negotiated separate trade agreements.

“For the world, I would like to say that it will be somewhere in a range of 15 % to 20 % … I just want to be nice,” said Trump at Turnberry, Scotland, along with UK Prime Minister Kiir Starmer.

“I would like to say in the range of 15 % to 20 %, perhaps one of these two numbers,” and continued.

The numbers are important because it represents a 10 % primary tariff that Trump announced in April this year.

It may also affect a number of smaller countries in the hope that the tariff rate will be closer to 10 %.

Trade Minister Howard Lootnik earlier this month suggested that small countries, including “Latin American countries, Caribbean countries, and many countries in Africa” will have a 10 % basic tariff.

But Trump said on Monday, “We will mainly target a tariff for the rest of the world.

Trump’s comments come as dozens of commercial offers with the United States did not negotiate a few days before the date for the tariff.

With the end date of the deadline, Trump administration officials suggested in recent days that the White House is not “under pressure to get more deals.”

“We have all heard that the president has repeatedly says he is happy with a tariff, he is happy to send a letter only and set a tariff, instead of making a deal,” said American commercial actor Jameson Jarir on Monday.

The basic tariff rate is between 15 % and 20 % equally with some agreements reached by the United States with the main commercial partners in recent days.

Last week, Trump announced a 15 % tariff in Japan, and on Sunday, he introduced 15 % of the customs tariff for most European goods to the United States

However, some countries, including Brazil and Laos have received tariff rates of up to 40 % and 50 %.
