A plane in India heading to London Gatwick crashed shortly after taking off in Ahmedabad on Thursday, leaving at least 204 people.

The flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew when it participated in what the airline described as a “tragic accident” in the city in western India.

The Penad Police Chief told the BBC that 204 bodies were recovered, while 41 people were treated due to injuries.

He said earlier from the news agencies that it seems that there are no survivors of the accident, and that some of the local residents were also going to look at the place where the plane fell.

When and where did the plane crashed?

India Airways said that the AI171 flights left Ahmed Abad Sardar Vallahai Patel International at 13:39 local time (08:09 GMT).

It was scheduled to land in London Gatwick at 18:25 GMT.

How was India and the United Kingdom’s reaction?

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “surprised and saddened” from the accident.
