A plane in India heading to London Gatwick crashed shortly after taking off in Ahmedabad on Thursday, leaving at least 204 people.

The flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew when it participated in what the airline described as a “tragic accident” in the city in western India.

The Penad Police Chief told the BBC that 204 bodies were recovered, while 41 people were treated due to injuries.

He said earlier from the news agencies that it seems that there are no survivors of the accident, and that some of the local residents were also going to look at the place where the plane fell.

India Airways said that the AI171 flights left Ahmed Abad Sardar Vallahai Patel International at 13:39 local time (08:09 GMT).

It was scheduled to land in London Gatwick at 18:25 GMT.

The plane crashed upon its departure from Ahmedabad – where all operations have been suspended since then.

According to the Tracking Flight Flightradar24, the signal from the plane lost “less than a minute after take off.”

Airline tracking data ends 625 feet (190 meters).

The flying organizer in India said the plane gave May Day to monitor air traffic. The response was not provided by the plane after that.

It was crashed into a residential area called Megan Nagar. Police told Ani News Agency that it had been shattered by the doctors.

It is not known if 204 were all on board, or were on the ground when the plane crashed.

He said earlier that it appears to be “no survivors” of the accident, and that “some locals” will also die in view of the place where the plane fell.

There were 242 passengers and crew members on board, according to Air India.

Among the passengers were 53 British citizens, 169 Indian citizens, one of the Canadian national citizens and seven Portuguese.

Natarajan Chandrasikran, president of Air India, said that the “Emergency Center” has been activated.

Gatwick Airport said that a reception center for passengers was established, where information will be provided, and that he was closely connected to Air India.
