Six people, including three children, was killed after the tourist helicopter knocked the Hudson River in New York on Thursday, the authorities said.
Three children and three adults were on board by helicopter in the collision time. Five individuals on board were Spanish tourists, and the sixth person was a pilot, told reporters from New York Mayor of the City of Eric Adams.
The first collision calls came around 15:17 EDT (20:17 GMT), and the rescue ships were launched immediately, officials said.
New York Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that the identities of the victims would not be released until families were notified. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
The part of the river where the helicopter crashed is near the west side of Manhattan. The surroundings is a neighborhood called the western village, the trendy space known for its shops and dining rooms, also near the main campus of New York University.
Videos appear to be published on social media show that the helicopter falls from the sky upside down and spraying in the Hudson River.
New York’s Fire shop Robert Tucker says rescue boats are running right after the emergency call.
“The swimmers were in the water soon after the call,” he said.
Once on the stage, officials started searching water for victims or survivors and launched immediate measures of life savings life, but efforts were unsuccessful.
The four victims were sent dead on stage, the other two victims were declared dead in the area, officials said at a press conference only after the collision.
